A Sports-Filled Weekend in Vanadzor: September 13–14 Recap

The weekend of September 13–14 turned out to be incredibly productive and full of energy here in Vanadzor — a true celebration of movement, community, and endurance sports!

🚴 Saturday: City Cycling Race

On Saturday morning, the Vanadzor Municipality organized a 6 km city cycling race, open to riders of all ages and bike types.
Cyclists from our Trialeti Vanadzor club joined the start line alongside students, local enthusiasts, and weekend warriors.
The lack of age or bike type categories made the race feel less competitive and somewhat unbalanced — an area for improvement in future editions.

We’re proud to share that Ivan, representing Trialeti Vanadzor on a road bike, finished first, while Varuzhan surprised even himself by taking second place. Congratulations to both of them — a fantastic performance!

🏃 Sunday: Vanadzor Half-Marathon

The next day brought an even more significant moment in our city’s sports history — the first modern half-marathon in Vanadzor, along with a full set of satellite events:

  • 1 km kids’ run

  • 4x2.5 km relay

  • 5 km and 10 km races

  • and of course, the 21.1 km half-marathon

The weather could not have been more "Vanadzorian" — cool, overcast skies with light drizzle at times — perfect for distance running!

The event was organized by the Vahe Meliksetyan Foundation in collaboration with Arm Marathon Foundation, and supported by many volunteers — including members of our Trialeti Vanadzor club, who helped as course marshals, consultants, and of course, participated as runners.

We’re thrilled to congratulate:

  • Mitya1st place in the 10 km (actual 10.7 km)

  • Elmira2nd place among women in the same category

This incredible weekend showed just how much potential Vanadzor has to become a vibrant hub for endurance sports and outdoor events.
We look forward to many more races and gatherings across the Lori region. Join us — the next adventure is always just around the corner!
